Video: Northern Ireland's creative industries have opened up a new world of opportunities

Northern Ireland is witnessing an irresistible shift in power from our declining traditional heavy industries to our creative sector and its range of cultural products. Our Creative Industries are fast becoming a major source of competitive strength, wealth and job creation.

The creative sector is one of the few sectors that has continued to grow in the current economic climate and the longer-term outlook remains positive. With Gross Value Added forecast to be close to £1 billion and with some 37,000 people employed by 2015, Northern Ireland’s Creative Industries will have overtaken agriculture in terms of the contribution they make. As major employers generating significant economic return, the Creative Industries are essential to rebuilding and rebalancing the economy.

From their important supporting role in the wide range of service industries such as hospitality and tourism, all the way up to major film production and the world-wide HBO blockbuster, ‘Game of Thrones’, currently being filmed in Belfast, the Creative Industries are proving to be a strong Northern Ireland success story.

The rise of our Creative Industries, their skills, services and products, in the hands of some of Northern Ireland’s most enterprising and talented people, is raising the global profile of Northern Ireland as a vibrant and confident place that’s ready to compete and do business.
