Artist of the Month February 2018 - Kevin Killen
Friday 2nd February 2018 at 11am
Kevin Killen studied at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design University College and graduated in 1999, having specialised in 3D design and fine art. His work investigates unseen boundaries and captured movement, reflecting these interests through video animation, photographic drawing, and LED lighting.
He has become renowned for his work in sculptured neon, having developed neon glass working skills whilst training in Dallas, Texas in 2009. Kevin adapts traditional neon techniques that free the medium from conventional wall-hung artworks, enabling him to create expansive free standing neon sculptures.
A24 & M1 to Great Patrick St II is included in the collection of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The works in this series are based upon the artist’s long exposure photographs of night time traffic travelling from the A24 & M1 to the St Patrick Street where the Golden Thread Gallery is located. The transient lines of light generated in the photographs are deconstructed and then rebuilt at three dimensional neon forms.
