Diane Lyness graduated from the University of Ulster obtaining a BA Hons in Fine and Applied Art: Jewellery and Silversmithing. For a number of years, Diane was an apprentice jeweller, working alongside Goldsmith Graham Harron in Killyleagh. In 2011, she was awarded a place on the Craft NI Making It programme, based at Down Arts Centre, Downpatrick.

Diane is passionate about creating unique pieces of fine, hand crafted jewellery and objets d’art, using precious materials such as silver, gold, platinum and gemstones. Her inspiration comes from looking at flowers. Although floral, her work relates to the structural rather than the ornamental aspect of flowers, their abstract patterns based on botanical studies and the examination of the microscopic detail within the flower. Colour, too, is important in her work, and the charm of light on translucent stones.

'Les Marguerites' is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s collection. It is inspired by the beauty of observing flowers in their natural form. The piece is also reminiscent of child hood memories, glorious summers, blue skies, running freely in the fields that surrounded the artist’s house, and making daisy chain necklaces.
