Monday 3rd September 2018 at 12pm
Victoria J. Dean is a photographic artist based in Northern Ireland. She graduated from the Belfast School of Art at Ulster University in 2017 with an MFA in Photography, receiving the Royal Ulster Academy Award for Outstanding Students. In the same year she was a winner in the LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards.
Victoria has exhibited and been published widely and internationally, most recently at the Klompching Gallery in New York (2018), the Golden Thread Gallery in Belfast (2018), and at Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibition (2018).
Three photographs from The Illusion of Purpose series are included in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland collection. This series contains a total of 20 images from the Welsh, Scottish, Irish and Northern Irish, and English Coasts, and plays on the idea that everything can be interpreted or observed from more than one perspective. In viewing these strange structures outside of their functional context, the images create an intrigue about what each structure could be, and so they can be viewed as sculptures in their own right. On another level, the structures can be also be seen as monuments to physical objects made redundant by modern technology.
