Born in Galway, Ailbhe graduated from Dublin City University with a B.A. (Hons) Degree in Communication Studies, and in 2000 she was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study for a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Photography and Related Media at the prestigious School of Visual Arts, New York, graduating with distinction in 2003.
