The all-star cast of Aladdin, currently thrilling audiences at the Grand Opera House, Belfast are the latest high-profile names to support the Arts Council's No More Cuts to the Arts campaign.
Cast members including the legenday May McFettridge/John Linehan, Paddy Jenkins and Coleraine actress, Jayne Wisener used the opportunity to urge the Northern Ireland Executive not to make any further cuts to the arts discussing that any such cuts would undoubtedly have long-term damaging consequences for the arts sector while also limiting the ability of the public to access such performances.
Celebrating 25 years in pantomime with his iconic creation, John Linehan said that if cuts are made ticket prices might have to increase and this would have a negative affect on children coming to the pantomime for perhaps their first experience of live theatre. A price increase may mean that schools could not afford to attend the annual pantomime.
Reflecting on her own experience, actress Jayne Wisener commented that there's so much happening in the arts in Northern Ireland at the moment and that it would be shame if we lost that. Jayne spoke of the increased opportunities here for young people particularly wanting to be involved in the arts and creative industries, but worried that these cuts may force young people to move elsewhere to find work.

Aladdin will continue at the Grand Opera House until Sunday 18th January and tickets can be booked here.
