Confirming an uplift of more than £10million following the announcement of an extra £18million for the arts over three years from the Department of Culture, Arts & Leisure, the Arts Council today revealed its initial spending plans for the funding period.

The Arts Council today welcomed the commitment of an additional £18 million over three years as a major contribution to bridging the gap between central government funding for the arts in Northern Ireland and other parts of the UK.

The Arts Council today called on the new administration at Stormont to redress the chronic under-funding of the arts, which has seen Northern Ireland fall even further behind the rest of the UK in per capita spend.

Arts Minister, Michael McGimpsey MLA, today announced the allocation of a further £335,000 for the arts in Northern Ireland.
