Major New Initiative for Crafts, Applied Arts & Design

Roisín McDonough, Arts Council of Northern Ireland Chief Executive, launched a major new initiative for crafts, applied arts and design, at the Edge Bar in Belfast.
The special initiative commits £500,000 of Arts Council of Northern Ireland National Lottery Funds to establishing Northern Ireland as an area of excellence in the production and exhibition of crafts, applied arts and design.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland today announced the allocation of awards totalling £2.47 million through three Arts Council National Lottery Fund Programmes.
- £1.2 million is shared between 23 arts organisations across Northern Ireland through the Arts Council’s Access to the Arts programme, designed to create the opportunity for everyone to participate in the arts
- £900,000 goes to ten arts organisations across Northern Ireland through the Audience Development programme, to introduce new audiences to the arts

Twelve arts organisations across Northern Ireland benefit from more than £340,000 awarded through the New Work programme for projects that take new work to people throughout Northern Ireland

Funding For Arts Infrastructure in Northern Ireland

More than £5 million alone towards the refashioning of city-centre arts provision in Belfast
Up to £3 million has been dedicated to the proposed new arts centre in the city’s Cathedral Quarter, which should include a major venue for visual arts exhibition, up to £2 million to the Grand Opera House and £250,000 to Conway Mill. Up to £100,000 is available to develop a new proposal for the role of the Belfast city-centre facility.
