Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown, was presented with a National Lottery Blue Plaque as part of the celebrations leading up to National Lottery Day on 5 November.
National Lottery Day is a UK wide event that celebrates and recognises the difference Lottery funding has made to communities across the UK.
Since The National Lottery began in 1994, £582 million has been awarded to good causes in Northern Ireland and The Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown’s flagship arts venue, is just one of nearly 10,000 grants awarded to projects that have benefited people across Northern Ireland. The Centre is organising free children’s arts activities and public tours from 10am to 5pm on National Lottery Day, 5 November.
A National Lottery grant of over £1 million from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland helped build the Centre, which boasts two purpose built galleries and runs a number of educational courses. The Centre also organises an outreach programme, which take art projects out into the local community.
Diane Hunniford, Chief Executive of Portadown 2000, the town regeneration company that built and now manage the Millennium Court Arts Centre said:
“We are delighted to be part of the National Lottery Day celebrations. This is a great opportunity for us to show the public the real impact of Lottery funding on projects like ours and the community as a whole. Saturday 5 November will be a fun day out for all the family.”
Morag Wood, National Lottery Day coordinator, said:
“National Lottery Day is all about recognising and celebrating the impact of Lottery funded projects on communities across the UK. Millennium Court Arts Centre is an outstanding project and a great example of how National Lottery funding is being used by local people to make a real difference to communities across Northern Ireland.”
Many other National Lottery funded projects in Northern Ireland will also be holding special events and promotion s in the week running up to, and on, National Lottery Day to celebrate the £582 million that has been raised for Northern Ireland.
