Own Art Launches at Belfast Print Workshop
Belfast Print Workshop is delighted to be the latest gallery in Northern Ireland to join Own Art - a scheme which aims to make buying art more accessible by offering interest free loans.
Supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Own Art lets prospective buyers (over the age of 18) spread the cost of their chosen piece over 10 months, making it more affordable to buy the
artwork of their dreams. Own Art customers are able to borrow anything from £100 to £2,500. The loan can also be used as a part-payment on higher value items, helping to support more ambitious buying.
Speaking about the scheme, Suzanne Lyle, Head of Visual Arts at the Arts Council said;
“Own Art is an affordable way to begin or to grow a personal art collection. The scheme not only supports local artists through the sale of their works but also opens up the idea of buying artwork to people who may not have thought about it before. We now have seven galleries in Northern Ireland currently offering the scheme to buyers and we would encourage more galleries in the region get involved.”
Offering Own Art finance helps support local and emerging artists as the work being financed must be created by a living artist. As a membership-focused atelier, BPW currently supports over 50 artists at it’s fully equipped and purpose-built print studio in Belfast city centre.
BPW sell a range of fine art prints from both current and past studio members and also hold an archive collection of over 1,000 artworks produced at the workshop. Visitors can view these works within the unique setting of a professional print studio.
Coinciding with their launch of Own Art, Belfast Print Workshop presents a solo exhibition from long-time member and acclaimed Irish artist Liam de Frinse. ‘Arais Arís - Back Again’ will open for Late Night Art Belfast on Thursday April 5th at 6pm, downstairs in the Cotton Court Galley. The show will feature a selection of framed works using a hybrid of print techniques, ranging in size from small to extra large, all be available for purchase.
