Circus & Carnival Arts
We support Circus Arts and Carnival Arts across Northern Ireland.
We recognise the unique contribution that these accessible artforms make to society and bringing communities together.
Circus arts and street theatre can embrace a variety of disciplines and techniques including acrobatics, clowning, trapeze, silks, contortion, stilts, juggling, music, spectacle, dance, physical theatre, and comedy. There is a thriving Circus Arts sector in Northern Ireland and its work with young people is at the cutting edge of Circus Arts development internationally.
Carnivals bring people together. Many festivals in Northern Ireland now include Carnival as part of their programming: this includes community based festivals and therefore reaffirms carnival as being one of the most accessible artforms both for participant and audience member. Carnival Arts supports tourism and has an important economic contribution to make, it is used as an effective tool for community cohesion, social inclusion and the celebration of diversity within our society.
