About the Organisation

At Fighting Words NI, we believe creativity transforms lives. From tomorrow’s playwrights to a child discovering their voice for the first time in the classroom, we support young people in their discovery of the joy and excitement of telling their own stories, with a special focus on voices not normally heard.

Because creative education helps the most disadvantaged students thrive, we work across Northern Ireland to help young people overcome barriers to writing, developing their communication and literacy skills through free creative writing programmes in order to grow in confidence and courage so they can tell their own story both on the page and out in the world.

Each year we work with 3,500 young people aged 6-18 and hundreds of adults. In 2023/24, 44% of our workshops were with schools with 40%+ pupils entitled to Free School Meals.
