Northern Ireland Music – Funding

Northern Ireland Music
Funding opportunities

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland provides support for individual musicians and musical organisations through a number of funding schemes, which open for application at various times during the year. Please consult for details.

Grants for Musicians
Musicians, singers, song-writers and composers can apply to the Support for the Individual Artist Programme (SIAP) for funding support, providing they have made a contribution to artistic activities in Northern Ireland for a minimum period of one year within the last five years. The programme opens once a year, generally in July/August. SIAP contains a number of individual funding schemes, including:

  • General Arts (max. £3,000)
  • Artists Career Enhancement (max. £5,000)
  • Major Individual Artist (£15,000)
  • Artists International Development (max. £5,000)
  • Self-arranged residencies (max. £5,000).
  • Bursaries to attend WOMEX and the Folk Alliance
  • Travel awards are available on a ‘rolling’ basis.

Targeted opportunities for musicians may arise during the year, so please check the website.

International Showcase Fund
Grants of up to £5000 are available for artists, bands and managers who have been invited to play an international showcasing festival or conference, to contribute to travel, visas, accommodation and expenses.  Delivered by the PRS for Music Foundation in partnership with the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Invest Northern Ireland. These awards enable individual artists, bands and managers to travel from Northern Ireland to develop their skills and expertise. Applicants must provide evidence that they have been invited by a host organisation in the country to which they intend to travel.

Additional opportunities for musicians
The Arts Council of Northern Ireland works with other funding partners and invests in a range of organisations to provide development support and performing opportunities for individual musicians. These organisations provide a support network for musicians of all abilities and for established as well as up-and-coming talent performing or writing in any musical genre.

Our Arts Officers offer specialist guidance on funding and project development to artists working across the spectrum of arts activities. Contact details available from
