Applications are open for Irish-language Theatre Award

The Irish-language Theatre Award is open to professional artists and organisations with a demonstrable track record in theatre practice. There are three strands to the programme and you can only apply to one strand in this round.

Strand 1: Play Development

• The maximum grant is €15,000.
• The objective is to enable the development of one new play or performance text. The playwright must be central to the creative process.
• The outcome of the process will be an Irish-language script for performance.
• Open to applicants based on the island of Ireland.

Strand 2: Theatre Creation

• The maximum grant is €25,000.
• The objective is to enable applicants to develop ideas for new work in the Irish language in a collaborative and interdisciplinary context. The playwright may or may not be at the centre of the process.
• The outcome of the process will be a script or performance text in the Irish language.
• Open to applicants based on the island of Ireland.

Strand 3: Production and Touring

• The maximum grant is €300,000.
• Only one award will be made under Strand 3.
• The objective is to support the development, production and presentation of mid-/large-scale theatre in the Irish language to general audiences; and to ensure more people will enjoy high-quality Irish-language theatre experiences throughout the country.
• Open to applicants based in the Republic of Ireland.
