Artist of the Month, April 2024 - Patricia McElroy

Patricia McElroy is an interdisciplinary artist, photographer, and designer based in the Philadelphia area of the United States. Patricia's photography primarily explores themes related to belonging, memory structures, and cultural identity, with a focus on the connections between the past and the present.

“Routine” is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland collection. The image is part of a bigger series of work titled “Between then and Now” which is about the artist’s 93-year-old mother’s life, facing the challenges of aging, having moved from Ireland to live with her daughter in America. The image has won numerous awards in juried exhibitions across the United States. As part of a larger series of images it was awarded outright winner of the 20th Pollux Awards, and was exhibited at the 2023 Royal Ulster Academy of Arts annual exhibition.
