Artist of the Month, June 2024 - Kwok Tsui

This large-scale oil on canvas painting was recently shown within the artist’s first solo show exhibition ‘Border | Sky’ in the Royal Hibernian Academy of Arts in Dublin. The artist’s painting practice is concerned with his diasporic experiences as a Chinese immigrant living in the West, and deals with themes of displacement and the notion of home. He works at scale, with a muted and largely monochromatic palette that references the visual language of abstraction, creating paintings comprised of many thin layers of paint, which suggest the complexity of identity and carry echoes of remembered places and emotions. 

This painting features in a new ACNI Collection group exhibition ‘Longing for Home’ showing at Strule Arts Centre in Omagh, running to the 27^th July.

Kwok Tsui is an emerging artist who has shown his work across Ireland and nationally. His studio practice is based at QSS studios.
