Aeroplane - Photograph, Giclee print on foamex (2020) by David Copeland. Arts Council of Northern Ireland Collection.

David is a Photographer specialising in conceptual and documentary approaches to the art form.  Having completed a first-class honours degree in photography in 2017, he then went on to complete an MFA in photography at Ulster University in 2020. David splits his time between commissioned and personal projects, showing work in both solo and group exhibitions.

Aeroplane is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Art Collection. It is part of a series called ‘a place to sleep’, examining the boundaries of the provincial town David calls home. The darkness in his images informs a psychological boundary that keeps him there and, by default, us there. Having moved away a couple of times, each time he finds himself being drawn back by circumstances beyond his control. The need for a place to sleep somehow draws him back in these all too familiar surroundings.
