Artist of the Month, May 2025 – Tim Millen

Tim Millen completed a BA Painting at the National College of Art & Design in Dublin and then graduated with an MA in Fine Art with distinction from the University of Ulster in 2011. His paintings explore themes of ecology, mythology and place. He is currently an artist board member at QSS Studios, Belfast.

Conference is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland art collection. This was one of the first of a series of figurative paintings made early in 2020, at the beginning of the first Covid lockdown. It was directly influenced by anxiety-inducing 24hr news cycle reports, and a sense of the world changing in ways far beyond our control. This image, of figures retreating into smaller and smaller spaces, felt like an indirect response to the pandemic.
