Artist of the Month, October 2025 – Aoife Herrity
1st October, 2025
Aoife Herrity is our Artist of the Month for October 2025.
Aoife Herrity is an Irish photographic artist, educator and writer based in Dublin. She holds an MFA in Photography from the Belfast School of Art at Ulster University. She works with photography, the written word and archival material to unpack and examine converging narratives, implicit memory and the visualisation of insidious trauma. Much of this work is brought about by research into literature, local family histories and psychology theory. Her work has been shown at a number of exhibitions in Ireland and is held in collections in Ireland, Canada and the USA.
Untitled (Tree) is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland art collection. It is part of a wider series of works called ' Sleeping Dogs Lie ', a body of work arising from MFA practice-based research at the Belfast School of Art at Ulster University. This work explores psychological landscapes brought about by trauma. By merging found, archival and contemporary imagery, Aoife aims to address the complexities involved in difficult and sensitive histories. Accompanying texts and documents illustrate both personal history and the wider, universal concerns regarding themes associated with complex traumatic encounters.
