Artist of the Month, October 2026 - Andrea Spencer

Andrea Spencer is a glass artist based in Ballintoy on the North Antrim Coast. Working primarily with flameworked glass and mixed media, she creates ephemeral installations and delicate sculptural objects. Her practice is deeply inspired by nature, investigating natural forms that are either transformed into symbolic objects or abstracted to create artworks that contain a personal narrative.

‘Bounty II’ is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Art Collection. The piece was created using a technique called Flameworking, which involves the creation of works in glass by means of a small but extremely hot bench-mounted torch. The piece is made up of borosilicate glass, solid and hollow sculpted forms which have been worked together to create a circular motif and mounted onto a fabric backing board. It is inspired by natural forms, specifically costal marine life and vegetation. Some of the hollow glass forms have organic matter and natural materials encapsulated within.
