Clare Gallagher is an award winning Northern Irish artist whose work centres on themes of home and care, primarily using photography. Her practice focuses on overlooked elements of domestic life, seeking value in the daily work of mothering and home, and challenging perceptions of home life as leisured, insignificant and safe. A photography lecturer since 2003, Clare teaches on the BA, MFA and PhD programmes at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University. Her book, Subversive Mothers, Disturbing Domesticity will be published in 2025 with Rowman & Littlefield.

Untitled (Monstera) is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Art Collection and is part of a series entitled The Second Shift. The image represents a reflection on the artist’s relationships with her sons, their relationships with each other, as well as connections and conflicted feelings relating to home.
