The residency opportunity will coincide with the Vhah Festival, a cultural festival focused on heritage, togetherness and health, which will take place from the 22nd-26th January 2026. During the residency, the successful artist will have time to develop their own practice as well as engaging with young people from local communities, and undertaking school workshops. The residency is suitable for mural artists working in traditional and sustainable materials.

Situated in the historic town of Ramgarh Shekhawah, one of the richest towns in India in the 19th Century, the residency is designed to give artists dedicated space and time to develop their practice.

This international opportunity is the result of links forged with key cultural institutions in India by the Arts Council and British Council as a platform for creating, sharing and promoting the creative arts.

Noirin McKinney, Director of Arts Development, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, commented: "This year we are delighted to offer one mural artist the opportunity to travel to the wonderful Vedaaranya artists’ retreat. This is a fantastic opportunity for an NI artist to really immerse themselves in Ramgarh’s creative community, where they can learn about traditional traditions and techniques, as well as sharing insights into their own methods.”

The value of the residency is £3,000 which covers:

• Accommodation costs inclusive of three meals per day and teas and coffee twice a day

• Access to Library and museum

• Free Wi-Fi
