Born in Belfast in 1965, Ronnie Hughes studied at the University of Ulster, Belfast, receiving an MA in Fine Art in 1989. Ronnie has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout Ireland, has participated in many group exhibitions worldwide, and has been awarded several prestigious residencies. His work is held in many public and corporate collections, including both Irish Arts Councils and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. He has lived in County Sligo since 1995 when he began lecturing in Fine Art at the Institute of Technology in Sligo.

Dazzle is part of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s collection. Works by Ronnie are generally process-driven to the extent that there is no plan and he has no sense of the outcome until the work get close to completion. His role is to steer and nuance their evolution until the emergence of waves, nebulae, constellations, lattice like structures start to appear. In his work, Ronnie searches for hidden structure or patterns in what appears to be a random and chaotic larger universe. As such, the act of painting is an act of discovery, a quest to extract a veiled or hidden reality.
