In Your Space Circus’s Carnival of Colours: returns to Derry on 21st and 22nd June 2025. The Carnival of Colours is a two-day circus, music and arts festival which showcases local and international circus, theatre, arts and musical talent. A cosmic tug-of-war between Ireland and Cambodia unfolds in this immersive documentary, revealing how myth, memory, and music shape shared patterns of belief and grief across time and sky.
Music for Domes is a documentary planetarium experience exploring the celestial echoes between two ancient nations, Cambodia and Ireland. Through sweeping journeys from Navan Fort to Angkor Wat, and from mythic skies to modern wounds, the film uncovers striking parallels in how these distant cultures interpret spirit worlds, survive trauma, and carve strength into art.
Blending new and archival footage with an original score by award-winning Irish folk musician RÓIS, the film is both a sensory odyssey and a cosmic meditation. Julie Livingston was fatally shot by a plastic bullet while crossing the road near her home. Seen through the eyes of Julie’s sister Bernadette, this powerful new play follows a teenage girl navigating her own grief, her family’s loss and their struggle for justice.

• 20 March to 4 September, Queer Set Dancing. Come along to a Queer Set Dancing class with Alexa Moore. Part of the MACtivate programme, in association with The Rainbow Project, the MAC’s fortnightly Queer Set Dancing class with Alexa Moore is specifically beginner-friendly. Join Alexa and the group for a fun class with no expectation of any prior dancing experience. The class is run by a queer woman and we aim to create a welcoming and friendly environment for LGBTQ+ people and allies to learn a new dance, have some fun, and meet new people. Commissioned by Green Shoot as part of its 2-year Community Theatre Residency in the New Lodge area of North Belfast, the play is based on workshops and discussions with young people and residents groups in the area.

Crescent Arts Centre: presents a series of language, visual arts, craft, music, dance classes, and more plus workshops and events. Highlights include:
• Art of Translation: Exhibition Curated by Anna Morrison, showing now until Monday 30 June 2025. Every book cover tells a story. They aim to capture the essence of what’s inside – a novel, a collection of poetry or short stories, a memoir - but that essence can look and feel very different depending on where and when you buy the book. The book you buy in Belfast may look very different to the same title you buy in Italy or China. Curated by Anna Morrison, this exhibition features titles by Irish writers - in their original language, alongside editions in translation: see how the covers vary!

Codetta: As Codetta marks its 25th anniversary, the internationally acclaimed choir is set to celebrate with a series of exciting concerts throughout 2025, showcasing collaborations with Maynooth Chamber Choir (23 May, Balbriggan), New Dublin Voices (25 May, Dublin), North Belfast Youth Choir (21 June, Belfast), and the Codetta Junior and Youth Choirs (22 June, Derry). The choir will host a special anniversary concert with guest artists and friends in its hometown of Derry on 19 September and as part of the 13th City of Derry International Choir Festival in October, Codetta will present a unique late-night performance alongside New Dublin Voices. (Please note this is not funded by ACNI).
David Lyttle Live at the MAC: Celebrated jazz musician David Lyttle hosts a weekly series at the MAC every Saturday from 2:30pm featuring acclaimed international performers, next generation NI talent and the unique Jazzlife Jam for under 18s. Born in Co. Armagh, David has brought his projects to almost 50 countries and received nominations in the MOBO Awards and Urban Music Awards for Best Jazz Act. He has collaborated with cutting edge jazz icons of today from Joe Lovano to Kurt Rosenwinkel, as well as unique studio projects in hip-hop with Talib Kweli and spoken word with Liam Neeson. Closer to home he founded the Jazzlife Alliance charity in 2018 and in 2021 established its flagship jazz improvisation programme Jazz Juniors, which now operates nationally in three NI hubs.
David will perform in the MAC’s upstairs cafe space from 2:30pm every Saturday until June with special guests from six countries scheduled and up-and-coming NI talent featured regularly. Free to the public thanks to the support of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and The MAC, the event’s second half will see under 18s from Jazz Juniors and beyond take to the stage for the Jazzlife Jam in association with Jazzlife Alliance.

• 13-20 Sep 2025, Follies, Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman. Northern Ireland Opera’s next major production at the Grand Opera House is ‘Follies’, winner of 7 Tony Awards on its debut on Broadway in 1971. Set in that same year, the girls of Weismann’s ‘Follies’ are returning with their partners to the decaying theatre on Broadway which holds so many memories for them for one last time before it is demolished. Time may have moved on, but inside the theatre old connections stir, rivalries flare and ghosts of the past are woken. By the time they all leave the theatre for one last time, their world’s will have shifted and nothing will be the same again. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by James Goldman, this legendary work features unforgettable songs including ‘Broadway Baby’, ‘I’m Still Here’, ‘Could I Leave You’, and ‘Losing My Mind’. ‘Follies’ will be directed by Cameron Menzies, Artistic Director of Northern Ireland Opera.

- Circus Explored - an all-Ireland project delivering events on 7th June for Crinniu na n'Og (day of children's creativity) and an ongoing collaboration between 6 youth circus organisations across the island of Ireland - Circusful, Galway Community Circus, Circus Factory Cork, Dublin Circus Project, Cloughjordan Circus Club and In Your Space Circus Derry.

Greater Shantallow Community Arts: presents Spill The Tae Youth Led Podcast from the young people at Studio2/GSCA. This amazing group of creative young people have launched their very own podcast and it can be found on Spotify or Apple Podcast. The young people plan, host, interview and edit the Podcast. To date they have interviewed some of their local MLA’s, Councillors, survivors and local Derry’s own Serena Terry, creator of Mammy Banter. ArtCart: Unique to WheelWorks Arts (WWA) is their ArtCart community engagement and outreach programme, which brings creative and artistic activities to your community. ArtCart is also the name WWA gives to its bespoke vehicle that can travel across Northern Ireland and transform into a unique workshop space. ArtCart is available for hire at youth, community, education, and festival events, bringing artistic and creative activities to the community. ChangeMaker: This is a programme by WWA that connects people from diverse communities with varied identities within organisations, communities, or geographical areas. It encourages open dialogue, exploration, and recognition of differences to foster mutual inclusion, enhance interpersonal understanding, and ultimately boost inter and intra-community cohesion. The programme explores perceptions, stereotypes, and misconceptions that workshop participants may have, with a view to understanding other contributors' values, heritage, biases, and experiences, and why people may have certain views or stereotypes. Nationhood: Memory and Hope is a new exhibition of powerful and poignant photography celebrating the diversity of the UK today. It is a love letter to all that is good in England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, and offers a wealth of insights on how we each try and shape both our identities and communities to make the world a better place.
The cornerstone is The Necessity of Seeing, a major new collection of constructed images by the acclaimed Ethiopian photographer Aïda Muluneh. Shot through the artist’s surrealist lens at iconic locations in Bradford, Belfast, Cardiff, and Glasgow, these layered and complex images reveal the overlooked stories, forgotten histories and quiet moments that shape who we are.
First seen on billboards around Bradford in autumn 2024, the exhibition also presents A Portrait of Us, Muluneh’s potent black and white photographs of unsung community heroes from the same four cities. Monsanto’s dozens of Superfund sites (large, contaminated sites of high priority for the US Environmental Protection Agency ) across the United States alone are affecting hundreds of communities and their environment with terrifying health and ecological consequences. Monsanto maintains strong ties with the US government, and especially with the FDA (United States Food and Drug Administration). Looking at the company’s past and present, this project aims to picture what Monsanto’s near future will look like.

Jasmina Cibic’s The Gift Ecology continues the artist’s exploration of the anthropological concept of the gift and its inherent obligations of circulation and reciprocity, as succinctly described by Marcel Mauss in his seminal essay The Gift. At Void Art Centre, Cibic focuses on the extractivism of both nature and culture within the history of political gifting—particularly on gifts that supported the construction of global transnational spheres of influence through soft power strategies. The Gift Ecology presents a new body of work spanning video installation, photography, and sculpture.

• Love is blindly reaching out rhizoids and anchoring them to a rock, an exhibition by McGibbon O'Lynn, 28 Jun – 6 Sep 2025
Love is blindly reaching out rhizoids and anchoring them to a rock is the newest manifestation of the world of Xenophon, a collaborative world-building project by McGibbon O'Lynn.
Rooted in the fictional world of the Xenothorpians - a fluid species mutating across vegetal, human, and ecological entanglement - the exhibition activates a multispecies romance beyond the species and the sexual. The project expands ideas of intimacy and relations through flings, courtships, longings, and liaisons with the garden.
The artistic duo consider how the gamification of dating has shaped how humans relate to one another, from 1960s TV shows like The Dating Game to 1990s board games like Dream Phone, and today's swipe-based apps like Tinder and Bumble. These formats reduce love to strategy, speed, and surface, often reinforcing transactional and disposable dynamics. This exhibition responds to that shift, questioning what we lose when intimacy becomes a game. it proposes a radical reimagining of connection - towards a more expansive, inclusive, and multispecies form of love and relationality.
The audience is invited into this multispecies dating game through ritual, material, and speculative storytelling. The project asks: what new intimacies arise when we love without species' boundaries?

UV Arts Centre - Garden of Reflection Gallery
UV Arts presents a two person exhibition of new and recent paintings and drawings by Malachy McGonagle and Declan McGonagle, which will run from 21 June to 26 July, open to the public from 12 pm to 5pm, Wednesday to Saturday. Both artists have had careers in senior positions in education and in curating and both originally studied Fine Art at the Belfast College of Art, from which they graduated in the 1970s.
Malachy McGonagle’s paintings are based on a visual analysis of landscape imagery, which is then manipulated and transformed through a painterly process which goes beyond conventional representation. The artist’s intention is to develop a personal, poetic interpretation of the source imagery.
Declan McGonagle’s figurative drawings are based on collaged images from mass media which reflect the stressed situation of the contemporary world, locally and further afield, to create a sense of an incomplete narrative, which the viewer is invited to resolve.
Both artists have had work included in exhibitions, at different times, throughout their careers. This is an opportunity to see their contrasting bodies of work, each with distinct starting points in terms of subject matter and creative approaches. (Please note this is not funded by ACNI).
